AMVETS Commander – Ron Griffin, Dec 2025

Six Months? Has it really been six months since our last Department Convention and my election? As they say time flies when your having fun and I’ve certainly having that! Let’s see so far I’ve traveled to Reedsville and Sturgeon Bay to install Post Officers. Then I was privileged to attend the 100th Birthday of one of our last WWII veterans and later was present at a flag retirement at a post as well as at the annual state campout event, THAT was great fun! Only wish I had attended the campout years ago! And those were only a few of the events I got invited to in the last six months.

Not all of my travels have been within Wisconsin though, in addition to attending the National Convention in August, I also recently attended the National 4 th District meeting, I believe the Commander attending National level meetings and participating in these types of events is essential and I’m truly honored to represent this Department. And that’s also true with representing AMVETs with the state’s Department of Veterans Affairs where I had the honor of having been invited by Secretary Bond to a Veterans’ Day reception at the Governor’s Mansion.

As you can see the duties of Commander involves a lot of formal and informal opportunities to represent the Department. While I have to admit that there are times I feel uncomfortable in this roll I have tried my best to put a positive image to our organization and I’m looking forward to the next part of my journey which will include our Dartball event, Bowling, the Auxiliary President and my Testimonial and in March the laying of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown in Washington DC, on the 250th anniversary of the year the Declaration of Independence was signed, WOW!

See you all soon.
