Greetings to my fellow AMVETS, Auxiliary, Sons, Riders, and Sad Sacks. This will be my last article as your Commander as bittersweet as it is. I want to thank all of you for your dedication as members of the AMVET family to carrying the torch to help your fellow veterans and members of your communities. I have been lucky to be able to travel around the State visiting many Posts and witnessing the fruits of their fundraisers.
The State Convention is coming up rapidly. If you haven’t reserved your room or registered as a delegate, please do soon. You can register on the site also. The get acquainted dance on Friday evening has a theme as “Come as your favorite sport or hobby”. No props, please. The infamous “Fish Bowl” will be present with prizes that you can bring to share with the attendees. The past winter dance in Waupaca was successful with everybody bring nice prizes. Please don’t bring any junk!
My Commander’s Project this year has been “Sofas for Service”. You can check them out at www.sofasforservice.com. Please make a push to donate at the convention. Make the check out to WI AMVETS and earmark it as the Commander’s project. Thank you.
Remember the convention starts with a golf tournament at 0800 at the Wood Golf Club at 530 Erie Rd. Green Bay, WI. If you can bring a basket to raffle to help fund this project. If you haven’t purchased a ticket for a chance to win big on our department raffle, please do it soon. I’m not sure how many tickets are going to be available before the convention.
At the convention, the Department will be electing new officers. Don’t hesitate to step forward and put your name in to become a Department Officer. My time as an officer in all positions in the Department has been great and a learning experience. You can make a difference in our department by becoming an officer.
