2nd Vice Commander – Tim Wendt, April 2026

What a great weekend in Oshkosh! Thank you to Post 7 for hosting the SEC and Testimonial dinner for Commander Griffin and President Rataichek.

Thank you to all Posts that have submitted Programs reports. If you have not submitted programs reports, please get in the habit of uploading them every month. Please report your program efforts in Mini-Extensions at https://www.amvets.org/submit-reports. If you need assistance, please reach out to me. I suspect that there are far more program hours being conducted than recorded. The value of our programs is tabulated by National every 6 months and shared with Congress as a show of the impact of our value to Veterans and the Community. Reports for this semi-annual period must be in by July 7th; however, all reports need to be submitted by June 1st to be considered for the annual Reporting Awards announced at Convention.

National Programs Reporting Periods:

July 1st– December 31st National Deadline: January 7th

January 1st – June 30th National Deadline: July 7th

Americanism Contest

Keep working to get the Americanism applications from schools, scouting organizations, boys and girls clubs and your neighbors.

The deadline is May 1st to have all entries to the POC’s listed below. Note that your District or Post may have a separate submission date so that they can judge locally. An information sheet was emailed in December that contains the addresses and phone numbers for the following:

Kindergarten and 1st Grades: Flag Coloring Contest (Doug Rasmussen is Department POC)

2nd through 5th Grades: Post Contest (Darlene Hempel is the Department POC)

6th through 12th Grades: Essay Contest (Tim Wendt is the Department POC)

Respectfully submitted by Tim Wendt, 2nd Vice Commander (Programs)
