Commander – Ron Griffin, May 2026

The adventure continues. Since the SEC and Testimonial last month things have really been busy. Events I was able to attend included the Department Bowling Event and thanks go out to Dennis Barrington for organizing that event. Dennis also helped organize the Commander’s Tour of Zablocki Medical Facility and Fisher House. If you have not had the chance to visit the Fisher House, all I can say is Wow, it is really something and if you get the chance to visit, I think you will really be impressed. Finally, I ended the weekend off with a very impressive function at Post 69.

Next came a visit with most of the other heads of Veterans’ Service Organizations with the Secretary of the Wisconsin VA where we had a chance to compare notes and ideas on how to best serve our state’s veterans and their families. This was followed by a recent event in Sparta, Wi. Where I was invited to attend a visit to our state by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs where I joined several other AMVET members in visiting with the Secretary and several of his staff. Thanks go out to our Judge Advocate Mike Hanke for getting us invited to this event, organized by Representative Van Orden .

Along with my main goal of increasing our communications, I am also committed to making sure AMVETS and AMVETS of Wisconsin take their rightful place as a leader in serving our veteran population.

The next big event coming up is of course our state convention. I know there was some concern about the details of the event not getting posted on our web page, but I will assure you the delay was well spent while we negotiated on getting the lowest costs for the banquet that we could. And just to remind you the convention will be one week earlier, starting Thursday the 18th of June for the H&S Foundation meeting and ending on Sunday the 21st. Let’s get every Post properly revalidated and represented at the Convention. There is strength in numbers and in unity of purpose.

Finally, do not forget about this year’s Commander’s Project – Operation Home fires. It was designed with the goal of having every Post in the state hold an event or support vets in their local community be able to live in a safe and secure home.  If your post has accomplished some event or donated to one, please get that info into me or the Department before our convention.
