What a few weeks! First, I get to represent our Department in Washington DC and then my department honors me at the Commander’s and President’s Testimonial. I was truly humbled by the support I received from the members of the Department that could attend the testimonial on April 11th. It was strange to have planned the event myself, but I think everyone who was there enjoyed the event. At least I got many rave reviews of the facility and the meal, so I hope they really like it, 1st Vice Kevin Gunderson plans to have it here next year! And what a job he did with the seating of the honored guest, wow! Even my grandkids loved that.
Now comes some demanding work getting ready for our convention coming up in June. This is last year for Onieda and Green Bay for a while. Next year we move to Wisconsin Rapids But this year we will be meeting a week earlier than normal so adjust your calendar accordingly.
At the SEC here on the 11th, I introduced new procedures for requesting recognition for members and other individuals and other organizations for extra ordinary accomplishments and support towards our department’s goals and objectives. As I attended the many events around the state that honored members and others at the Post level I could not help feeling we had to have some way of extending the same honors from the Department. Well, our Executive Director came through when for us he produced not one but four certificates that we can issue.
Also, I am asking our Constitution, Bylaws and Resolutions Committee to review our Bylaws, especially as they relate to committees and make recommended changes in the Bylaws for consideration at our convention. Right now, we have many areas where we are not in compliance with the Bylaws, and those are the basic rules we must operate by, and they need to be looked at and updated.
