Hello all from the Riders Department!
As we continue to bear the wrath of Mother Nature, the Riders find themselves starting to plan for this years rides. The grip of PMS (parked motorcycle symptom) slowly starting to ease away as the days begin to get longer, and the days near the sounds of spring.
The Riders Department held their SEC meeting December 8, 2022 in beautiful downtown Black River Falls at the Sunnyside cafe. Items discussed ranged from PDP Kim Barbian’s recent adventure in Indiana and her recovery to 1st Vice Larry Redmann’s recent Honor Flight. A petition has been sent out for all Riders to sign to assist National in hopes of returning the annual Memorial Day weekend ride of Rolling to Remember, back the parking lot staging area of the Pentagon so many years ago. Our biggest topic of conversation is how to raise funds for our Department. Several ideas were discussed and hopes of getting these finalized at the next SEC meeting continues. As always, recruitment efforts continue in hopes of growing in numbers and strength.
As there are those who begin to make this years ride plans, if anyone is planning on attending Rolling to Remember, National has asked to please make plans for seeing the sites either a day before or a day after the event. Our tasks are assigned for the day of the event and all hands on deck so to speak, makes for a great showing of support and unity for our country and AMVETS. Sgt. at Arms Chris Salzer reports Memorial Day is a great day as there are other events occurring. There has been some interest from outside of our organization in riding with a group from Wisconsin to D.C. If you plan on attending, please let me know and I will pass along the contact information of those wishing to make the journey.
There are many thoughts, ideas and topics I could personally begin to put on paper. From recruitment efforts and why they seem to be so.difficult, talking about stigmas, fighting personal battles and conflicts to those who simply put a smile on their faces and continue on without a care in the world or anger in their hearts. It appears I am beginning to ramble again as I said I like to do in my first article.
So…in closing, I hope this finds all of the AMVETS of Wisconsin well, warm and wishing away these winter blues.
Take care everyone,
Corey
